Adapting to change: Keeping performance in-sight
06 Apr 2016
Organisational change is never easy. However, leadership training courses teach participants that their employees’ ability to adapt to change is central to any reform initiative.
In an interview with McKinsey, Bina Chaurasia, Ericsson’s chief human resources officer, said that central to implementing organisational change was developing the capabilities of the people that drive the company forward.
The interview highlighted two key priorities:
Priority 1 – Accountability
Over the past several decades, there has been a major push for employees to become more and more accountable to their organisations. However, after the recent financial crisis and other associated events, workers are demanding that companies be accountable for their own actions.
One way to achieve accountable organisational practices is by creating clear roles and leadership responsibilities. Additionally, by developing a feeling of ownership when the company hits its KPIs or goals you can also develop the buy-in potential for reform.
Priority 2 – Accessibility
Change is a massive part of life, yet this does not make it any easier. One way to reduce the tension that builds up during these transformational phases is making the organisation accessible to employees.
This does not mean creating easy access from the car park to the foyer, but instead allowing employees the opportunities to interact with the business in someway.
One way to achieve this is through training sessions. For instance, Ericsson has created a series of internal training programs that can be accessed by all its staff no matter where they are in the world.
Unfortunately, many businesses do not have the ability to create their own leadership development schemes. However, there is a range of in-house training providers that can send out experienced leaders to help your employees develop as professionals as well as inculcate a mentality that embraces change.
